The Sumerians lived on Earth over 5000 years ago. They were the people of the world's first civilization, Sumer. The earliest records known to mankind are of Sumerian origin. It is widely acknowledged that writing developed in Sumer for records that were economic or administrative in nature, including deeds, loans, census and tax matters. Sumerians recognised the value in recording their progress for future advance.

With no building materials, Sumerians developed innovative techniques using mud and straw to build structures of strength that lasted hundreds of years. It was this resourceful approach that helped this group of people grow and develop civilizations at speed.

The Sumerians are also credited with numerous technologoical advances that include the wheel, the 60 second minute , arithmetic and geometry. The Sumerians have left an imprint of innovation and advance that still exists today.
